" The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt within the human heart"  -  Helen Keller

This is my daughter Scarlett. Scarlett was born with multiple, complex health issues. She has Schizencephaly, a rare brain condition resulting in global developmental delays. Although she is almost 5 years old, she is still unable to walk or even stand on her own. She was also diagnosed with Panhypopituitarism for which she must take numerous medications including daily injections of growth hormones. By far the most challenging obstacle in her young life is her congenital Septo Optic Dysplasia, which had left her completely blind at birth.

Thankfully, there is an available treatment that has been proven successful for the treatment of Scarlett's condition as well as many other debilitating illnesses. The revolutionary use of stem cells has been shown to actually regenerate the optic nerve and give sight to children who were facing a lifetime of blindness. Unfortunately this technology and treatment is only available in China. The procedure is safe and non-invasive, but costly. The summer of 2008 we were able to raise the necessary funds to provide Scarlett with this amazing opportunity and we could not be more happy with the amazing progress she has made so far (check out our China blog for details on the procedure and results).

We are now begining to fundraise once again in hopes of providing Scarlett with a second round of treatments in September of 2012. Not only does she stand to gain additional improvements to her vision, the stem cells could also greatly increase her chances of walking and reaching other developmental milestones that she's currently lacking. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

"Of the over 3,000 patients that have been treated with our stem cells, about 70 to 80% of patients are satisfied with their treatment. Beike has used stem cell injections for diseases like Alzheimers, Ataxia, Autism, ALS, Brain Trauma, Cerebral Infarction, Cerebral Hemorrhage, Cerebral Palsy, Guillain-Barre, Encephalatropy, and Spinal Cord Injury. There are a lot of patients in countries around the world who could have a better quality of life and even extend their lives with the technology available but don’t have the chance because of politics, religion and bureaucracy. Beike’s goal is to help those people."    - excerpt from Beieke Biotech homepage.
